Walking the VHI Mini Marathon for Joshua 💙
Joshua was born 7 weeks early with Oesophageal Atresia with Tracheoesophageal Fistula (OA/TOF) Type C, a rare congenital condition which meant he was born unable to swallow.
At just one day old, Joshua had life-saving surgery. While the surgery saved his life, children born with OA/TOF often face lifelong challenges related to feeding, swallowing, digestion, and respiratory health.
As new parents, this diagnosis was incredibly overwhelming. Because the condition is so rare, many doctors don’t encounter it often, and we found ourselves with very little information or guidance in those early days. We had to research and learn about the condition ourselves while navigating the fear and uncertainty of having a newborn in hospital.
That’s why I’ve decided to walk the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon along with my sisters Emma and Alex — to raise awareness about OA/TOF and help support families who may face the same diagnosis.
By raising awareness and funds, we hope to:
• Help improve knowledge of OA/TOF among medical professionals
• Support research and resources for families
• Ensure parents in the future have access to the information and support we struggled to find
Joshua is incredibly strong and continues to inspire us every day.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would also help raise awareness of this rare condition.
Thank you so much for your support 💙
