This September, I am running the Great North Run for TOFs', a charity that supported me as a child from birth.
As a newborn, a doctor had told my parents, because of the condition I was born with; "He may make a good goalkeeper, but he won't play 90 minutes outfield". Though today, I couldn't live a much fitter and active lifestyle.
I am looking for some fundraising support for a brilliant Charity, that I myself know from experience.
There are many great charities being supported through the Great North Run, and although small, TOFs' charity are a large part of the reason why I am athletic and healthy today, allowing me to partake in many sports without inhibition, and enabling my contributing to such an event today.
For any unaware, a Trachea-Oesophageal Fistula is a rare condition of the throat and airway, forming a fistula where the tubes are not properly conjoined at birth. There is a link to accurately describe the condition better than I can in my own words below for any of those interested further. In short, TOF' children are born unable to swallow food & drink, often in addition to complicating respiratory factors.
Due to extensive research in support of developing babies and children, that this charity raises awareness for, I was fortunate to be diagnosed early, operated upon and avoid any major complications.. other than a cool scar. Though saying this, I was in and out of hospital for months as a newbor
