G and H have chosen to do some super challenges over the next year, starting with the TOFS Big Splash event.
Challenge 1:
G is just swimming 10m independently, and has challenged himself to do 12 lengths (120m).
H is able to do 5m with a bit of a push to get going, so she's raring to go for 4 widths. (20m).
Challenge 2:
G is planning to walk a half marathon (21km). He plans to do this all in one go, but it may be split over 2 days, he's only 6 after all!
H will join him for 5km (with some breaks in between), and she's also going to walk the 21km distance over 2 weeks.
G was born with a condition called Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula and Oesophageal Atresia (TOF/OA), a condition which affects one in every 3,500 babies. His condition was only diagnosed after he was born. He had surgery at 2 days old and he's now had a number of follow up operations to stretch his oesophagus and remove stuck food. He's also having some physio to make his breathing easier. We've hit a few stumbling blocks this year as his tubes take a while to catch up with his growth spurts.
We are still learning how to cope with his condition (he is much better at this than the rest of us!). Things are settling down, but he still needs more care than others his age. We still really value the support offered by TOFS. This charity has provided invaluable information, and have also offered a platform for discussing parental worries as we come across new challenges as he grows.
Please sponsor us so that TOFS can continue to offer their amazing support to families.
